“I'm Still STANDING”

I wrote the song STANDING back in 2009. The Cherryholmes band recorded the song and even received a Dove nomination. It wasn't until 2023 that I was inspired to do this video, though I have always believed in its message.

After completing CHANGED IN A MOMENT, I began what would become a two-year project. Those two years would test the truth of that message. First, in August of 2023, I had a major rotator cuff surgery. The six months of physical therapy that followed were hard and painful. A year later I was still working to get my mobility back.

Also, in November, 2023, my dear father-in-law went home to be with the Lord. He was a wonderful, Godly man and a true example of faith. He was the pastor that baptized me back in 1983. It was sad to say good-bye.

Then, in June of 2024, my only brother passed away unexpectedly. We were very close, especially since both of our parents were gone. He was the person in my life who led me to the Lord. My heart ached terribly.

By fall of 2024, I was still trying to regain strength and mobility with my injured shoulder when the other shoulder began giving me trouble. I had also been dealing with arthritis in my hips and ankles as well. So now, I had choreographed this great dance for STANDING and realized I was not able to do it. I told my husband Jere that I may have to change the title of the song to SITTING and perform it from a rocker or wheelchair. Fortunately, we have a home gym, and I was training faithfully to regain the abilities that seemed to be slipping away.

In the fall of 2025, as I was finishing up the video, Jere had some challenges that we are still working our way through. Life can sure get complicated for the “seasoned citizen.” Yet, when I look back on all that has happened since I began this project, I find myself even more excited to share its message. I'm still STANDING!

We all have our dark valleys that we travel. We all experience hurts, losses, and disappointments. But every testimony grows out of a time of testing. When we stay close to our Lord, we can have that testimony to share with others. Moreover, I have to confess that the view from the mountain top is all the more beautiful after having spent time in the dark valley.

So, I continue to believe in the message. “Life keeps trying to knock me down, but I'm still Standing…Hand in hand with Jesus!”
